Abstract |
A miniature on-line sorption trap is used to preconcentrate volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from large-volume air samples and inject the organic compounds into the separation column of GC as a relatively narrow vapor plug. The CNT sponge adsorbents were assessed on the basis of analyte thermal-desorption bandwith and efficiency, chromatographic peak shape, and breakthrough volume against mixurtes of organic compounds. The determination of a vapor mixture of common air contaminants in <10 min is demonstrated using ambient air as the carrier gas. Detection limits of <10 ppb are achieved for the majority of compounds from a 100-mL air sample using FID and PID detector. Performance evaluation is performed in the context of real-time and in-situ monitoring applications. |
