Abstract Co & Ni embedded in the carbon nanotubes (CNT) were obtained by the calcination of Co and Ni-ZIF-67. A general and high-yield strategy for the formation of CNTs from the metal−organic frameworks (MOFs) developed at a temperature of 700 °C by the calcination process. The purpose for the formation of CNTs is to obtain small nanocatalysts with high activity. The formation of metallic Co embedded in the carbon nanotubes was investigated by the X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the graphitization was analyzed by the Raman Spectroscopy. Furthermore, the porous ZIF-67 exhibited superior electrochemical performance when applied as a cathode material for the Zn-air batteries. The cyclic test for charging and discharging was performed for 200 h revealing a potential catalyst, having splendid stability for the OER and ORR in the Zn-air batteries.
