Abstract Hexamethylenetetramine was used to modify GO (GO-HMTA). Influence of GO and HTMA-GO on thermal and mechanical performance of epoxy composites was studied. Commercially available diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) was used as base resin. Lower loadings (0.04,0.06 0.08 0.1 and 0.2 wt.%) of fillers were used to obtain the maximum improved properties. Both GO and HMTA-GO cause a sharp increase in the fracture toughness (KIC) and fracture energy (GIC) of epoxy composites at 0.04 wt.% loadings. The maximum enhancement in KIC and GIC for GO and HMTA-GO epoxy composites were 23% and 40% and 1.94 and 2.27fold, respectively. All the epoxy composites show higher integral procedural decomposition temperature (IPDT) than pristine epoxy and the maximum thermal stability of composites was obtained at 0.06 wt.% filler contents.
