Abstract A metal free, Lewis acid catalyzed approach for the intermolecular [5+2] cycloadditon of vinyl aziridines with alkynes has been reported for the synthesis of highly functionalized seven membered N-heterocycles. The method has broad substrate scope and applicable for both terminal and internal alkynes as well as vinyl aziridines under mild reaction conditions which delivers a variety of structurally different azepines ring systems in high yield up to 92%.
