Abstract Nitrogen-based heterocycles are important motifs in drug design and engineering of pharmaceuticals. A simple glance at FDA databases reveals that nearly 60% of unique small-molecule drugs containing a nitrogen heterocycle. Resveratrol (3,5,4'-trans-trihydroxystilbene) is a natural product known to exhibit strong antioxidant activity. To enhance its antioxidant efficacy, we have synthesized nitrogen-based heterocycles (quinoline, isoquinoline, quinoxaline, and quinazoline) containing resveratrol analogs using Wittig-Horner and metal-catalyzed reactions as key synthetic steps. Later, their antioxidant activity was measured by the ABTS assay and IC50 values of these compounds were also calculated.
