Abstract In this work, activated carbons (ACs) were synthesized using chemical activation with various weight ratios of potassium hydroxide (KOH). The structural properties and the morphologies of ACs were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The specific surface area and pore size distribution were calculated by N2/77K adsorption isotherms using the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) equation and non-local density functional theory (NLDFT). Hydrogen uptakes were measured by high pressure adsorption instrument at 298 K and 70 bar. The results explain that the weight ratios of carbons to KOH have an influence on the changes in pore sizes and hydrogen storage capacity.
