Abstract Gypsum board is a natural material that is used as a building material with the characteristics of insulation and light weight, environment friendly. It is consist of calcium sulphate dihydrate (CaSO4·2H2O), calcium sulphate hemihydrates (CaSO4· ½H2O) and calcium sulphate anhydrite (CaSO4). Depending on the content of CaSO4· ½H2O , it may affect the properties of the gypsum board products. To analyze phase contents, there are methods using thermal changed by reaction, losing weight by heat, and diffracted x-ray from sample. To figure out the best method having short time, accurate results, and simple process, we have compared all factors and results of those methods. In this study, we experimented all methods and found the reason why the phase and content differences were occurred, and the analysis limitations of each methods. Finally, the result using rietveld method is the closest to standard value. And the limit of phase analysis is less than other methods. It is powerful function to analysis of impurities in gypsum materials. Through this result, rietveld method is expected to widely apply to inspection of gypsum materials.
