One of the aims in nanoscience is to develop useful materials for various applications such as electronic devices, catalysts and biosensors. A variety of nano- and micromaterials with various shapes and sizes have been reported because morphologies of substrates affect their physical, chemical properties. Though organic molecular self-assembly have received huge attentions due to its potential applications, the shapes are limited to sphere, tube and rod. However, we have reported that β-peptide foldamer could self-assemble to form well-defined, finite and unusual molecular architecture with different shapes by varying concentration of surfactant in self-assembling media. Herein we report our recent results of a controllable self-assembled molecular architecture based on β-peptide foldamer with terminal carboxylic acid group in order to functionalize the specific facet of the architecture.
