Mesoporous carbons with ordered channel structure (COU) have been successfully fabricated via a direct carbonization of an organic?organic nanocomposite. This synthesis method avoids the use of hard templates, and could thus reduce the number of preparation steps and the cost involved in producing these materials. Ultra-large mesoporous carbon materials were synthesized with the use of resorcinol/formaldehyde (RF) and triethyl orthoacetate (TEOA) were used as the carbon co-precursors and triblock copolymer Pluronic F127 was used as a surfactant under acid conditions. The carbons were obtained by carbonizing at 600oC exhibit large mesopores with a narrow pore-size distribution centered at 6.2 nm. Large specific surface area and pore volume, well-developed interconnected mesoporosity, and high electrical conductivity. Porous carbons show promise in the fields of hydrogen-storage, catalysis and electrochemistry as well. This COU displays superior Li-battery performance with large reversible capacity, excellent cyclic performance, and good rate capability in high-performance lithium-ion batteries.
