A modified ethylene glycol-reduction method by ultrasound irradiation was developed to synthesize PdCo nanoparticle catalysts with different molar ratios. These as-synthesized PdCo catalysts were characterized by Transmission Electron Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis and Cyclic Voltammetric method to determine the average particle size, composition, surface morphology and electrocatalytic properties. The electrochemical activity of PdCo catalysts was investigated in terms of formic acid electro-oxidation in an electrolyte of 0.1M HClO4 at room temperature. All PdCo catalysts showed higher catalytic activity in formic acid electro-oxidation compared to that of pure Pd catalyst. The result obtained from cyclic voltammograms indicates that PdCo catalysts can be a promising candidate for anodic species in direct formic acid fuel cells (DFAFCs). This synthesis method is very simple and cost-effective
