Organic semiconducting materials based on π-extended linear-conjugated systems have been very intriguing and significant development has been achieved in these materials over one decade. Accordingly, a number of researchers have attempted to synthesize π-conjugated small molecules, dendrimers, oligomers, and polymers because of their strong potential applications to electronics and optoelectronics. In this work, we synthesized 2,6,9,10-Tetrakis(5`-ethynyl-4-hexyl-2,2`-bithiophene) anthracene derivatives for use as soluble p-type organic semiconductors. Depending on the substitution sites, the electronic properties were tuned precisely. Self-assembled behaviors induced specific type of aggregation in the solid state. By virtue of J-aggregation mode, the molecules were investigated to demonstrate their potential to organic thin film transistor and photovoltaic cell. We performed the UV-visible spectroscopy, PL spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, thermal analyses of the new-conjugated molecules. Finally, we fabricated thin film devices to investigate TFT performance and its photosensitivity under light illumination.
