CO oxidation is an important catalytic reaction in many industrial processes and has been studied on many metals supported on oxides such as Fe2O3, TiO2 and ZnO. Among various choices, Au/ZnO has been reported to be an efficient catalyst with a good stability. Many studies have found that the overall catalytic activity of the Au/ZnO system can be determined by various preparation methods which can ultimately influence the size of the Au clusters and the Au-substrate interactions. In the present study, we studied the effect of the support shape on the overall catalytic activity of the Au/ZnO system by using various shapes of ZnO nanocrystals. We synthesized shape-selective ZnO nanocrystals such as microflowers and nanosheets, by a soft chemical technique using zinc acetate di-hydrate, sodium hydroxide, and sodium citrate. Au was incorporated to the crystals in an aqueous solution of HAuCl4. Catalytic activities of the synthesized Au/ZnO were evaluated from temperature-programmed reaction (TPR) measurements in our home-made flow reactor under a flowing condition at a static pressure of 0 ? 760 torr, while the substrate temperature varied at 300 ? 700 K
