Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have regarded as one of the excellent physisorption adsorbents due to their tunability of pore dimension and high specific surface area for a hydrogen adsorbent. A number of researchers have tried to modify structures of MOFs for the purpose of increasing hydrogen storage capacity. Therefore, various strategies such as catenation, introduction of open metal sites, and functionalization have been suggested to acquire the enhanced hydrogen uptake results. We have synthesized four different MOF-5s in order to investigate the effect of structural modification on the MOFs’ structures and properties. We have obtained the high crystalline, catenated, and MWCNTs-incorporated MOF-5s by changing solvent molecule, controlling concentration, and in-situ synthesis, respectively. We found that the crystallinity, catenation, and incorporation of hetero-material have influence on the hydrogen storage capacities of MOF-5s. Furthermore, a significantly enhanced thermal stability of MOF-5s via structure modifications was found.
