In this study, Photo-degradation polyimide films were aligned rubbing method. And rubbed films exposed to linearly polarized UV light the angle vertically or horizontally. After irradiation, polyimide film gives more or less LC alignment, perpendicular to polarization direction of the UV irradiation. We studied that effect of polarized UV light on rubbed polyimide film. LC aligning direction is measured by polarizer and UV spectrophotometer. The absorbance of Photo-degradation polyimide film was from 0.08271 to 0.46284 and Photo-degradation polyimide film, containing reactive monomer was from 0.63164 to 1.2346. It shows containing reactive monomer film has more absorbance.
Anchoring energy of liquid crystal with aligning surface was measured. Irradiation of polarized UV light on rubbed Polyimide film suppressed effective anchoring energy. Linearly polarized UV light on rubbed polyimide film controlled anchoring energy effectively.
