TiO2 has been one of the most widely investigated and used materials over the past decades, because it is nontoxic, easy to be made, inexpensive and chemically stable. In recent years, TiO2-based nanomaterials have attracted significant research attention due to their broad applications in the fields of H2 production, water and air purification, photovoltaic and photoelectrochemical cells. However, one of the major factors that limits the efficiency of TiO2 photocatalysis is its fast recombination of photo-generated electron/hole pairs, which releases energy in the form of unproductive heat or photons. To solve this problem a simple and straight forward approach hydrothermal process to prepare TiO2-coated carbon allotropes is presented here. The composite showed great activity on splitting water with MeOH as an electron donor. Under AM 1.5G irradiation, hydrogen was successfully produced over the Carbon allotorpes/TiO2, The TiO2 NPs-coated Carbon allotropes exhibited 30 times higher photocatalytic activity for H2 production than that of pure TiO2. The composites were also examined for Phenol and dye degradation which showed great adsorption capacity for dye molecules. These properties facilitated the great enhancement of photocatalytic activity of TiO2 NPs-coated Carbon allotropes photocatalysts. The significant photocatalytic activity of the nanocomposites was attributed to the synergetic effect of the intrinsic properties of its components such as an excellent light absorption and charge separation on the interfaces between the modified Carbon allotropes and TiO2, resulting from direct growth of TiO2 nanoparticles on the surface of the Carbon allotropes during the hydrothermal process.
