Submerged Plasma Irradiation (SPI) process has been recently introduced as an advanced oxidation process in wastewater treatment. If high voltage discharge occurs in submerged water environment, it creates shock wave, UV, H2O2, ozone and various reactive oxidants as well. These oxidants plays an important role in oxidation in wastewater treatment. In this study, several series experiments were conducted to investigate the optimum condition of laboratory scale SPI unit for the treatment of RO retentate from wastewater. Effects of discharge time, frequency, waveform in SPI at various condition were studied. The efficiency of RO retentate treatment increased with increasing run time of SPI. Optimal operational conditions of frequency and waveform were found to be 10Hz and square wave respectively. Removal efficiency of treated wastewater such as CODMn, T-N, T-P and Turbidity was in the range of 15% to 50% within 30 minutes of operation. SPI has shown a great potential in wastewater treatment processes.
