Organic molecules soluble in organic solvents are promising materials for inexpensive device fabrication since they can be processed by simple solution techniques such as spin-coating, drop-casting, and inkjet-printing. To date, the efforts to synthesize soluble semiconducting molecules have focused on polymeric conjugated systems. Compared to polymers, however, oligomeric semiconducting molecules have several advantages including well-defined structure and ease of synthesis, purification and structural modification. A series of asymmetric anthracene derivatives (NDHPEA, TNDHPEA, ADHPEA) was synthesized by Suzuki cross-coupling reaction for organic thin film transistors (OTFTs). The structures of synthesized oligomers were confirmed by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and mass studies. They were found to be soluble in common organic solvents such as chloroform, dichloromethane and toluene. The physical properties of oligomers were also characterized by UV-visible, photoluminescence (PL), cyclic-voltametry (CV), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and X-Ray diffraction (XRD) studies. The results showed that these oligomers possess high thermal stability of around 455℃(Td). The solution processed OTFTs (Top-contact) were fabricated using synthesized oligomers spin-coated on Si/SiO2 . The fabricated devices showed the field-effect mobility of 9.1 × 10-5 cm2/Vs for NDHPEA, 1.2 × 10-2 cm2/Vs for TNDHPEA and 1.8 × 10-5 cm-2/Vs for ADHPEA.
