Recently, increasing uses of manufactured nanomaterials (MNs) have resulted in more concern about their potential risks to human health and environment. Of particular importance, multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) is one of the well-known and widely-used MNs with various commercial applications and impartial assessments of their toxicological impacts on biological systems are required for their successful commercialization. In this study, since MNs for toxicity assessment purpose should be well-dispersed and completely characterized, well-dispersed MWCNT were prepared and their physicochemical properties were characterized for nanotoxicological studies. Particularly, during their synthesis process, MWCNT frequently involves a significant impurities as well as wide heterogeneities in their size distribution. Therefore, using various analytical techniques (e.g., TGA, TOC, ICP-MS, SEM and etc), we have developed a protocol for the preparation and characterization of MWCNT dispersions, which are suitable for the nanotoxicological assessments.
