The many studies have been performed to develop the proton conduction membrane for operation of the proton electrolyte membrane fuel cell(PEMFC) at above 100 ℃ due to advantages such as low CO poisoning of Pt catalyst, simple thermal and water management. So, the perfluorosulfonic acid polymer electrolyte such as Nafion has been modified by the incorporation of the water retentive and proton conductive inorganic filler. In this study, we prepared the phosphoric acid doped-mesorporous silica/Nafion composite membrane for the high temperature PEMFCs. The phosphoric aicd doped-mesoprous silica was characterized by the transmission electron microscope (TEM), fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and solid state magic angle spinning-nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS-NMR). The electrochemical properties of the phosphoric acid doped-mesorporous silica/Nafion composite membrane were evaluated by a in-situ electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) test using IM6 impedance analyzer and the unit cell test at elevated temperatures (60 ℃ to 130 ℃). The relative humidity (RH, %) is decreased from 100 % to 7.4 % with elevated cell temperature. The phosphoric acid doped-mesoporous silica/Nafion composite membrane showed the higher proton conductivities and fuel cell performance than the unmodified Nafion at the elevated temperature and low humidity.
