American Chemical Society and Its Research Grant Programs
저자 및
Dr. Burtrand I. Lee
Research Grant Manager, American Chemical Society, United States
The chemical industry in the U.S. is a $720 billion industry, employs 784,000 people, exports $171 billion in products, which accounts for more than $0.10 of every dollar in U.S. exports. American Chemical Society (ACS), founded in 1876, is the world’s largest society for chemical professionals with over 16,000 members worldwide. The Society’s many significant professional activities include the Chemical Abstract Services, publishing over 40 chemically related journals, promoting excellence in science education and community outreach, and giving out research grants. In this presentation for the International Year of Chemistry, I will introduce few major functions of ACS and of the Office of Research Grants (ORG) in particular. ACS offers grants to support the advancement of the chemical sciences through research, education, and community projects. The Petroleum Research Fund (PRF) within the ORG is an endowed fund, managed by the ACS. It supports innovative fundamental research, advanced scientific education, and the careers of scientists, to aid in significantly increasing the world’s energy options at nonprofit institutions (generally colleges and universities) in the United States and other countries. Twenty five of the PRF past grantees, went on to win Nobel Prize in chemistry.
