The NO2S2-donor macrocycle L2 functionalized with fluorescent carbazole unit was synthesized by means of Buchwald procedure in good yield. The N-phenylated macrocycle precursor L1 was synthesized by dithiol-dichloride coupling reaction of corresponding dichloride with N-dithiol, using Cs2CO3 in DMF. In the metal-induced photoluminescence experiment, a selective chelation enhanced fluorescence quenching (CHEQ) effect was observed upon addition of mercury(II) and copper(II) perchlorates into L2, although a relatively small CHEQ effect was observed with silver(I). In addition, the silver(I) and copper(I) complexes of L1 were obtained and crystallographically characterized. An endo-dentate 1:1 monosilver(I) complex 1, [Ag(L1)]X; (X = ClO4 or PF6) which show isomorphous structures were obtained from the reactions of L1 with silver(I) salts. Meanwhile, reaction of L1 with copper(I) iodide afforded a 1-D coordination polymer 2 linked with Cu4I4 cluster unit which shows yellow photoluminescence at 555 nm. For L2, the investigation of the related complexation is in progress.
