We have investigated the relationship of conserved features between integrins and compare them to those of other species. In the study, unknown porcine integrin structures were predicted by the crystallized structures from human. The porcine integrin shares common structural and functional components with their counterparts from other species. Integrins participate in crucial roles in a variety of physiological process, including immune response, wound healing, embryogenesis, and regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation. Eighteen different α subunits and 8 different β subunits have been in vertebrates, generating 24αβ heterodimers and perhaps making the integrins the most structurally and functionally diverse family of cell adhesion molecules. Then we suggested insights of how key structural features of pig integrins from model structures is associated with the central biological functions. These features were finally integrated into functional signature motifs from the integrin orthogs. The significance of difference between both integrins can serve as an important immunoreceptor in species-specific conserved features of pig from human orthlogs
