Surfactants and organic pollutants in wastewater could be absorbed and accumulated in living things, acting as potential carcinogens and causing enormous damage to the aquatic ecosystem. These surfactants, organic contaminants, and organic solids are not decomposed for a long time, which leads to the decrease in the penetration of oxygen into the water in rivers and surface waters. Thus, development of a system capable of removing surfactants and organic contaminants is urgently required. We report mesoporous SiO2 nanoparticle-embedded multifunctional filters to eliminate surfactants and organic solids.
