Unimolecular reaction dynamics of aniline cation using a modified technique of a direct measurement of the decay rate

We have measured the decay rates of HNC loss from aniline cation, C6H5NH2+, by a modified time-of-flight mass spectrometer(TOFMS). The new mass spectrometer has longer length of photodissociation region than the old one. So we can observe the fragmentation of aniline cations for long time window at the revised photodissociation region. When the aniline cation ionized by 266 nm multiphotons is decomposed to cyclopentadienly cation by photons in the visible and ultraviolet region, the mass peak of fragment consists of two components; a fast component and a slower component. Then we can obtain the dissociation rates of aniline ion as a function of the photodissociation laser wavelength, which determines the internal energy of aniline ions. Also, we perform Density functional theory for the fragmentation of aniline cation at B3LYP/6-31+g(d) to calculate RRKM. Therefore the experimental results are compared with theoritical expectation by RRKM calculation.
