Enantiomeric recognition of aminoalcohols has been extensively studied because of their importance as biologically active molecules and ligands for stereoselective catalysts. The separation of enantiomers by reactive extraction is an industrially attractive choice as it appears to be the most cost-effective process. Versatile enantioselective extractants were tested by Kuipers et al. for chiral separation of a number of chemically related aminoalcohols by reactive extraction. The chiral extractor that has better selectivity and can be easily prepared is under need for commercial application. One such extractor is designed, synthesized and applied for enantiomeric recognition and resolution of aminoalcohols by an elegant bi-phasic extraction procedure, which is controlled by the pH conditions. The synthesis, characterization and the resolution of aminoalcohol will be presented.
