Recently, polymer lithium batteries are being actively developed by many research groups, and they are in constant search of a novel polymer electrolyte. Various concepts are being investigated to develop novel polymer electrolyte with high ionic conductivity in the range of 10-3 S/cm. Some representative concepts are the usage of polyethyleneoxide comb type copolymers, copolymers with flexible polymers, and polymer blends. In this work, the solid polymer electrolyte composites, which are composed of a blend of poly(vinyl chloride)-poly(ethylene oxide) (PVC-PEO) as host polymer, lithium perchlorate (LiClO4) as a salt, and lithium montmorillonite as the nanocomposite fillers, were prepared. The effect of lithium montmorillonite (Li+-MMT) clay on the polymer matrix was investigated as a function of filler content. The chemical composition and structure of the nanocomposites was determined using Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) method.
