Synthesis and molecular structure of novel cyanide bridged thulium-nickel heterobimetallic complex {(DMF)10Tm2[Ni(CN)4]3}

Heterobimetallic thulium-nickel complex {(DMF)10Tm2[Ni(CN)4]3} was quantitatively prepared in metathesis reaction of 2:3 molar ratio of TmCl3 with K2Ni(CN)4 in DMF at room temperature. Tm (III) ions in the complex are bridged by the bidentate Ni(CN)4 2- anions. From single-crystal X-ray analysis, the structure of the complex was shown to possess the general formula {(DMF)10Tm2[Ni(CN)4]3} with one dimensional array. The repeating unit of the complex is translated only along the crystallographic a axis of the lattice. The structure consists of two parallel running zigzag chains that are inverted from each other. They are generated by two Ni(CN)4 2- ions bridging Tm(III) ions in cis fashion. The chains are linked by a series of Ni(CN)4 2- ions bridging the Tm atoms in a trans fashion. The crystal system is a triclinic. R1 and R2 are 0.0279 and 0.0504, respectively.
