The imaging contrast between the normal and affected part of tissue can be enhanced by applying a contrast agent to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), which is helpful as a promising technique for the detection, diagnosis, and staging of cancer. The nanoconjugate was synthesized by coating superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles that were surface-modified with poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG). Following the immobilization of the PEG on the nanoparticle surface, ethylenediamine was used to convert the carboxylic acid group to a primary amine. Colloidal suspensions of iron oxide nanoparticles were characterized by TEM and ICP-Mass. The success of the synthesis of the PEG nanoparticles was confirmed with FTIR
