Preparation of LiMn2O4 nanoparticles by a simple sonochemical method

Various lithium rechargeable batteries have been widely used as a power source for portable electronic devices such as mobile phones and laptop computers. LiMn2O4 has been generally used as a cathode material for lithium rechargeable batteries. LiMn2O4 nanoparticles were prepared by a simple sonochemical method. First, Mn3O4 nanoparticles was prepared by reacting MnCl2 and NaOH through sonochemical method, operated at 20 kHz and 220 W for 20 min. Second, LiOH was coated onto Mn3O4 by the same sonochemical method as above. Then, these particles were thermally treated at 300oC, 400oC and 500oC for several times. These nanoparticles were characterized by infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometer, and high solution-transmission electron microscopy analyses.
