The study of nanostructured and catalytically active materials with a high surface area has received attention. Often, the shape modulated nanostructures exhibit interesting catalytic and optoelectronic properties. The nanostructured platinum receives interest as it is one of the effective catalyst in fuel cell and chemical sensors. Keeping these aspects in view, we have prepared hollow Au nanoparticles and hollow Au@Pt-Ni and Au@Pt-Co alloy core-shell nanoparticles. The morphological changes in Au nanoparticles while forming the hollow particles and core-shell alloy were studied using Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Field emission scanning electron microscopy. Further, UV absorption spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used to characterize the hollow Au@Pt alloy nanostrucutures. We anticipate that Au@Pt alloy particles would be effective catalysts for fuel cell application.
