Electronic photo-depletion spectra of dibenzo-18-crown-6 ether (DB18C6) complexes with H3O+, NH4+ and protonated amino acids were obtained in gas phase using a hybrid mass spectrometer of a quadrupole ion-trap reflectron time-of-flight mass spectrometer (QIT-reTOFMS). The DB18C6 complex ions were produced by electrospray ionization, accumulated in QIT, photo-fragmented by UV laser pulses, and analyzed by reTOFMS. The photo-depletion spectra of the complexes were obtained by monitoring intensities of the parent ions with and without laser firing as a function of the laser wavelength. The spectra exhibited rather well-resolved absorption bands, positions of which vary depending on the identity of a cation bound in the cavity of DB18C6. The spectral shifts and their relation to structures of DB18C6 complexes as well as to the binding affinity of the cation will be discussed.
