Due to the bio-compatibility, nano/microspheres with appropriate surface modifications have been widely employed to expand the district of biotechnology as well as nanotechnology, opening an era of bionanotechnology. Especially, the high surface area and water-dispersive property of nanoparticles enable an effective conjugation of a large amount of biomolecules on their surface. In addition, magnetic microspheres can be easily and selectively recovered from its diluted suspension with other materials. The physicochemical properties of silica nanoparticle and magnetic microsphere were combined with an enzyme cascade, yielding "Cascade Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (CELISA)", which enables a highly sensitive detection of target antigens. In this talk, more applications of nano/microspheres in combination with biomaterials will be introduced.
