Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have been attracting much attention because of their high energy conversion efficiency and as a low-cost alternative to commercial silicon-based solar cells. Silicon nanoparticles, also called quantum dots, have unique optical properties in the quantum-confinement regime. The most promising applications of silicon nanoparticles are biological imaging agent, optoelectronic device, and photovoltaic devices. Currently many research groups are concentred on semiconductor nanoparticles such as group Ⅱ-Ⅵ, and Ⅲ-Ⅴcompounds. In this study, we used silicon nanoparticles as co-sensitizer for DSSCs. Silicon nanoparticles capped with hydrophilic groups were synthesized in the solution-phase at room temperature. The influence of incorporated silicon nanoparticles on the performance of DSSCs was investigated. The performance of the DSSCs with silicon nanoparticles was compared with that of DSSCs without silicon nanoparticles. Synthesized silicon nanoparticles were characterized using HR-TEM
