Two kinds of dioxomolybdenum(VI) complexes, [MoO2(sal-phtsc)(CH3OH)](4,4‘-bpy) (1) (sal-phtsc = salicylaldehyde 4-phenylthiosemicarbazate and 4,4‘-bpy = 4,4‘-bipyridyl) and [Mo2O4(4,4'-bpe)(sal-mdtc)2](CH3OH) (2) (4,4'-bpe = trans-1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene and sal-mdtc = salicylaldehyde S-methyldithiocarbazate) have been synthesized by the reaction of [MoO2(acac)2] with the corresponding tridentate Schiff base and diamine as bidentate ligand in the metanol or dichloromethane solution, respectively, and characterized by physicochemical methods. The crystal structure of 1 consists of two independent moieties; [MoO2(sal-phtsc)(CH3OH)] and 4,4‘-bpy. For complex 2, two [MoO2(sal-mdtc)] cores linked via 4,4'-bpe. In both complex, the Schiff base ligand is bonded to the cis-MoO2 cores through the phenolate-O, the imine-N, and the thiolate-S atoms. One oxygen of methanol molecule (for 1) and one N atom (for 2) from 4,4'-bpe are bonded to the molybdenum center, respectively to complete the distorted octa hedral coordination environment.
