For the treatment of refractory organic pollutants, comparison of the anodic oxidation of phenol and 2-chlorophenol was carried out by flow through electrochemical cell at Pt/Ti, and BDD electrodes. Experimental variables including current input, reaction time, and flow rate were optimized for the electrolysis aqueous solution of phenol and 2-chlorophenol. The removal efficiency of phenol, and 2-chlorophenol in aqueous solution increased with increasing the applied current and reaction time. Above 93.0 % of degradation yield was obtained both in phenol and 2-chlorophenol at the applied current of 200 mA for 3 hr. The degradation products of oxidation reactions were identified with HPLC. Small aliphatic acids and CO2 were the main products in anodic oxidation of both phenol and 2-chlorophenol. The degradation yield of BDD was about 1.4 times higher than Pt/Ti.
