Simultaneous Detection of Cu(II), Cd(II), Pb(II), and Hg(II) Ions in Waste Water at Boron Doped Diamond Electrode with DPASV

New approach for the simultaneous detection of Cu(II), Cd(II), Pb(II), and Hg (II) ions in aqueous medium was performed by using a boron doped diamond(BDD) electrode with the differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry(DPASV). Atomic force microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to characterize the surface of trace metal ion deposited BDD electrode. Various experimental parameters affecting the response, such as pH, deposition time, deposition potential, and pulse amplitude were carefully optimized. Using the DPASV, the logarithmic linear response range for the Cu(II), Cd(II), Pb(II), and Hg(II) ions were 1.0 x 10-7 ~ 1.0 x 10-9 M. The detection limits for Cu(II), Cd(II), Pb(II), and Hg (II) ions were 4.0 x 10-10 M, 2.5 x 10-11, 7.8 x 10-11, and 5.0 x 10-10, respectively. Other metal ions did not interfere to the detection of Cu(II), Cd(II), Pb(II), and Hg (II) ions. The response of BDD electrode was 10 times higher than GC electrode. The BDD electrode can be used to simultaneously determine Cu(II), Cd(II), Pb(II), and Hg(II) in waste water.
