Patterning of ZnO Nanowires on Patterned Substrates by Using Light Stamping Lithography

We have studied the directed assembly of ZnO nanowires on Si substrates using light stamping lithography(LSL) and self-assembled monolayers(SAMs). LSL is based on the direct transfer of the contact surface of the PDMS stamp to a substrate via a UV (254 nm)-induced surface bonding between the stamp and the substrate. The LSL method is a very powerful technique to generate a patterned film on a variety of solid substrates without inks (organic molecules or materials). With this method, PDMS patterns were made on the Si substrate, and then amine-SAMs were deposited between the PDMS patterns. PDMS pattern and amine-SAMs are neutral and positively charged, respectively. In this strategy, positively charged surface molecular patterns are utilized to direct the adsorption of ZnO nanowires, which are naturally negative charged, on Si substrates, while PDMS patterns are utilized to avoid any unwanted adsorption of nanowires. Therefore, ZnO nanowires were attracted toward the positively charged molecular regions and aligned along the amine-SAMs patterns.
