The multielement determination of trace metals in seawater was carried out by collision cell technic inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (CCT-ICP-MS) with chelating resin and shaker for preconcentration. This method without using column has some advantages such as very cheap, good reproducibility and simultaneously handed many samples for shortening working time. The trace metals in 100mL of original seawater sample were concentrated into 10mL of 2M nitric acid, and then 10-fold preconcentration of trace metals was achieved. Then, 10mL analysis solution was subjected to the multielement determination by CCT-ICP-MS. Collision cell technic used to avoid mass interferences on analyte ions caused by argon ions and argon molecular ions. The preconcentration and elution conditions, such as the amount of 1M ammonium acetate for elimination of matrix elements, and the amount of 2M nitric acid for eluting trace metals were optimized to obtain good recoveries and analytical detection limits for trace metals. The analytical results for Al, Bi, Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Th, V, Zn and U in seawater certified reference materials(CASS-3) agree well with certified values.
