Isotope Dilution Mass Spectrometry (IDMS) uses an isotope labeled material corresponding to the target analyte as an internal standard. The isotope labeled material has the same chemical and physical properties as the target analyte; therefore, this technique provides its accuracy without systematic bias through the accurate correction of the recovery of the target analyte along the sample clean up processes. In our lab, we developed and evaluated the IDMS method employed with liquid chromatography as a candidate reference method for the analysis of folic acid in infant milk, acrylamide in potato chips and malachite green in fish tissue. The repeatability and reproducibility test results proved that the ID-LCMS method has a high metrological quality as a reference method.
